Governance

By overwhelming approval of the membership, the Bylaws were changed in 2007 which changes the compilation of the previous Executive Council to that of a Board of Directors and to include a greater cross section of members. Under this new governance, the Board of Directors includes individuals from private practices, academic practices and business associates and/or faculty. The terms of office for directors are staggered to allow for the continuity of the board. Officers are elected from within the board.

Maryland MGMA is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors which consists of 5 private practice directors, 4 academic affiliated practice directors and 3 business associations and faculty directors. Each year the membership elects four directors to serve a three-year term on the Board.

Annually the Board of Directors elect five directors to fill officer positions on the Executive Committee. Along with the Immediate Past President, the officers are: President and Chair of the Board, Vice President for Educational Planning and Vice Chair of the Board, Vice President for Finance and Business Development, Secretary and Treasurer.

The Board of Directors utilize seven standing committees. They are: Executive, Educational Planning, Finance and Business Development, Professional Development, Communications and External Relations, Nominating and Bylaws. These committees are composed of both directors and volunteers from the membership.
