Certification and Continuing Education

Established in 1956, the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE) is the standard-setting and certification body of the Medical Group Management Association (National MGMA).  ACMPE offers board certification and Fellowship in medical practice management.

ACMPE’s mission is to continually improve the performance of medical group practice professionals and the organizations they represent.  Their vision is to be the recognized leader in defining and supporting the profession of medical group management.

Some benefits of board certification:

  1. Demonstrates your broad knowledge of medical practice management
  2. Enhances your professional status by earning a nationally recognized professional designation
  3. Provides a distinct advantage over other candidates when seeking employment and promotions
  4. Assists you in demanding more salary, on average, than noncertified professionals
  5. Expands your network of medical practice executives who have chosen to excel in the profession

The board certification exams and presentations assess your:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the broad scope of medical practice management principles and issues
  2. Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  3. Ability to communicate in writing
  4. Oral communication skills

Fellows are members of ACMPE who have chosen to advance beyond board certification.  Fellows demonstrate the ability to synthesize knowledge by writing an original professional paper or 3 case studies defensible to peers.  Fellowship (FACMPE) is the highest level of distinction in the medical management field.

Continuing Education

Each of our educational programs are set in accordance with the Body of Knowledge for Medical Practice Management which is the foundation for ACMPE self-assessments, examinations and leadership programs - as well as its ongoing contribution to medical practices. Within the Body of Knowledge are learning domains. The learning domains allow you to acquire specialized knowledge, develop career-changing relationships, increase your likelihood to elevate practice performance and to become successful by your definition.

For each calendar year, our educational programs are approved for up to a total of 43 continuing education units [CEUs] from the ACMPE. This allows you to easily meet the CEU requirement to maintain your ACMPE certification.

CEU approval by the ACMPE is respected by other professional associations for their members. These include, but are not limited to: AAPC, AHIMA and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants. Be sure to request a Certificate of Completion after each program you attend. The certificate will contain all of the necessary information for submission to your licensing association.
